The upcoming 2018 Ford Fusion ST will be a complete refresh of the Fusion sedan line. However, it will not be just that. Thanks to a new, more powerful powertrain, this model will be a performance version meant for dedicated enthusiasts. While the standard Fusion features all the bells and whistles of a modern sedan, the Ford has decided that it needs more power under the hood. With an engine taken straight from the F-150, the Fusion ST will offer unparalleled performance, hardly achievable by other sedans. This engine, along with a small number of exterior and interior changes will make the new ST a formidable challenger.
2018 Ford Fusion ST – Modernized Look
Even though the exterior design of the 2018 Ford Fusion ST is mostly the same as the standard Fusion’s one, there are still a few changes. Even though the ST is meant for performance, the American engineers have decided not to sacrifice the Fusion’s elegant looks. This sedan is still a pretty-looking car, which now features a more aggressive look. The most obvious exterior changes include a set of large, 19-inch, black-painted wheels and new quad exhaust tips. In comparison to the standard Fusion, the ST variant will sport redesigned calipers and brake rotors. With a remodeled front fascia, stronger lines and a small rear spoiler, the upcoming ST will also look more aerodynamic than the standard Fusion. All in all, the looks of this sedan are not surprising. It still features a well-known design, albeit with some new, athletic additions.
Interior Features and Equipment
When it comes to the interior of the 2018 Ford Fusion ST, the potential customers should not expect any drastic changes. For the most part, it will perfectly mirror the look of the standard Fusion’s interior. While some might find this a bit disappointing, this is actually a good thing.
The interior of the new ST will offer a luxurious feel, with premium leather seats and a stitched dash. Its cabin is spacious enough to easily accommodate up to 4 fully grown individuals and 3 children. Its trunk is also spacious enough to offer plenty of cargo options. However, since this is a performance variant, there will be some performance features, as well. These will include Recaro sports seats in the front, a sportier-looking steering wheel, and a specially designed instrument cluster. The rest of the tech equipment in 2018 Ford Fusion ST will include the Sync 3 infotainment system, Android auto and Apple CarPlay, Bluetooth and more.
Engine Specs and Performance
The main feature of the 2018 Ford Fusion ST will be, of course, its engine. This is going to be a 2.7-liter twin turbo V-6, with 325 hp @ 5.500 rpm and 380 lb-ft @ 3.500 rpm. With it, the ST will be capable of reaching a top speed of 125 mph and going from 0 to 62 mph in around 5.3 seconds. Its fuel efficiency is rated at 17/26 mpg. For a smooth power transmission, the Ford has decided to couple the engine with a 6-speed automatic gearbox.
